Daguan Power Plant
The Daguan Power Plant began as Sun Moon Lake No. 1 Power Station in the Japanese era: construction started in 1918 and took sixteen years, finishing in 1934. In 1985, Taiwan’s first pumped-storage power plant was built beside it.
Water from Sun Moon Lake runs through the mountain, falls from a height and turns the generators — and becomes light. Roasting tea is a transformation too: fire draws the moisture out of the leaves and keeps the fragrance of the mountains.
